okay so i cut out the hivemind because it was all RAWRRR DISNEY WHY WOULD YOU CUT OUT THIS BEAUTIFUL THING RAWWRRR DISNEY CAN’T STAND THE SIGHT OF A STRONG NORD ASIAN WOMAN I AM SO MAD

but yesterday coelasquid made a post on it and i’m really inclined to take her side, as it makes a lot of sense

frankly this whole thing is super STRONG FEMALE PROTAGONIST which mulan is, don’t get me wrong, but she hasn’t exactly grown into any real rebellion at this point in the movie, and she only went to war because she couldn’t think of any other choice (since she didn’t want her dad to get killed), not to flex her biceps or anything.

this whole thing has a really confusing tone that wouldn’t make sense for the movie. She really did try to do the whole bride thing (and failed due to clumsiness/procrastination), but she wasn’t puffing out her chest and saying DON’T YOU MARGINALIZE ME and flipping over tables, even if she didn’t exactly want to do it

i mean, she gets to do some really badass stuff later in the movie, but in the beginning she’s just a regular girl, you know? it gives her a lot to grow from
